ICSE English Syllabus 2023- 24

The syllabus is followed in the following sequential manner: 

  1. Listening and Speaking Section

The listening and speaking portion contains a variety of texts and audios to assess students’ comprehension abilities. Among these are the following:

  • Listening to a range of materials, including lectures, stories, poetry, tales, and so on, is required for written and oral understanding.
  • Listening to and comprehending public issues and subjects through oral testing. These mostly comprise public speaking, social media, online videos, guest speakers, and so on. It also entails soliciting ideas for elaboration on these concerns.
  • This part also includes group discussions, presentations, theatre, speeches, debates, and other activities. This may be done through the use of audio and pictures.
  • Language evaluation, analysis, and interpretation in numerous situations, including newspaper, television, billboards, advertising campaigns, and so on.
  • Speech adaptation to a range of circumstances includes gestures, tones, a word emphasising, body language, voice modulation, and so on.
  1. Reading Section 

It comprises literary and non-literary writings that span a variety of topics and records them for future interpretation and inference. The following are typical themes:

  • Nation and its heritage consist of sub-topics: Socio-cultural, religious, ethnic, and linguistic
  • Neighborhood and families, self and friends
  • The world, along with countries, their cultures, customs, and literature
  • Adventure, creativity, and imagination

  • Harmony, peace, and prosperity

This part offers you how to curate and write materials across both formal and informal styles. These are some examples:

  • Making short compositions based on images
  • Creating simple tales with descriptive illustrations
  • Simple message writing, informal letters and applications, and the construction of brief paragraphs are all examples of simple message writing 
  • Thought organization and structuring into writing
  • The use of linkers to connect sentences that reflect the passage of time while also generating a feeling of closure in the phrase.

  • Figures of speech
  • Dictionary and reference materials
